The Jeju Global Research Center (JGRC) is a branch campus of Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) specialized in renewable and ocean energy research. It was established with the 3 goals; marine energy connected to the land new and renewable energy (on/offshore convergence original technology development), integration demonstration platform establishment and test evaluation, global exchange program and education/training in order for local characterization and energy self-sufficiency technology development.

JGRC is composed of the Marine Energy Convergence and Integration, System Convergence, Wind Energy Laboratory. They are continuously developing future advanced technologies through collaborating with domestic/overseas advanced university and laboratory.

※ Yongduam Rock

Situated to the north of Jeju City, Yongduam was created by strong winds and waves over thousands of years. However, there are plenty of other stories of how it came to be. One legend has it that a dragon stealing precious jade from Mt. Halla was shot down by an arrow from the mountain deity. When he fell down on Yongduam, his body immediately sank into the ocean and his head rapidly froze looking at the sky. Another legend has it that a white horse, who dreamed of being a dragon and ascending to the sky, came to be caught by a soldier and froze into the rock.

Located in the north of Jeju Island, a naturally blessed tourism destination, the Jeju Power Generation Site Division is operating diverse generation facilities, including Steam Turbine (2 units), Internal Combustion (2 units), Gas Turbine, PV Power and Wind Power. Since it began operating the 10MW Steam Turbine #6in November 1982, the division has become the largest power generation complex with a generation facility capacity of 308MW,accounting for about 31% of the island's power supply. When the Jeju LNG CCPP is completed in 2018, the division's total capacity will reach 548MW,increasing its contribution rate to 44%. Undertaking responsibility for stable electric power supply to Jeju Island, where electric power demand is rapidly increasing, the division is operating high-efficiency facilities at the highest level, including the first gas turbine generator to operate during power failures on the Island.
